Summary
MedEnvision, founded in 2012 and headquartered in Westerlo, Belgium, with a US subsidiary, develops medtech solutions that help orthopaedic surgical teams operate more efficiently. Its Efficient Surgery (ESY) solution, built around the Gripper and EsySuit products, standardises key steps of hip, knee and shoulder replacement procedures. The company says the platform helps hospitals reduce procedural costs, free up scarce medical staff, improve ergonomics and support infection control. Its solutions are used in more than 26 countries and sold through a sales team, distributors and agents.
The investment is intended to support long-term growth centred on international expansion, a broader product portfolio and a stronger commercial organisation. MedEnvision said it views TA as a strategic partner and expects TA's healthcare and orthopaedic expertise to support a greater focus on the fast-growing US market. CEO Dries Goyens said the deal reflects recognition of the team's work and that the company will continue its growth path with Smile Invest.
Birker Bahnsen, Managing Director and Head of TA's European Healthcare Investment Team, said TA was impressed by the company's clinically driven innovation and international traction. Bart Cauberghe and Nicolas Costers of Smile Invest said the firm had supported the founders and management team since 2024, a period in which MedEnvision strengthened its international footprint and professionalised its organisation.
According to the release, Trent Law advised MedEnvision and its shareholders, while Goodwin Law, Stibbe and PwC advised TA. TA describes itself as having invested in more than 560 companies since 1968 and having raised $65 billion in capital to date. Smile Invest, a European evergreen investor with over €500m in assets under management, has supported 23 portfolio companies since its 2017 inception.
